TWISTERS

TWISTERS is a film that shouldn't have been made.

That's TWISTERS -- with an "s" to try to distinguish it from 1996's TWISTER starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. This film stars Daisy Edgard-Jones in a poorly written role and Glen Powell who really is becoming a snooze-fest.

Everything that made the earlier film work is missing in TWISTERS except for the CGI.  Can special effects alone make this a hit?

Probably.  But it's still a bad film.

Daisy looks much younger than she is and Glen looks much older than he is so the ten year's real age difference between the actors seems much greater.  More damage comes from the fact that Glen can't act with women.  He should move to TV where they give him a token wife to reassure nervous audiences that he's not gay and, this being TV, they don't have to do romance scenes or even kiss.

Glen looks stiff and uncomfortable every time he's supposed to be charmed by Daisy.  Go read Rebecca's "how about we don't rush to declare the 3rd or 4th lead in a hit from 2 years ago a star?" which went up at the start of the week but works even better if you've suffered through TWISTERS.

Daisy looks like an actress who's the new Emily Lloyd and who we all wish would disappear about as quickly.  Not really attractive, not really talented, over-praised and forced on audiences.

Again, the tornadoes look good.  But if you're able to, skip it.  I think TWISTER just got added to MAX but you can also rent it.  You'd do better to stay home and watch it and  avoid this new garbage.

In other news, NETFLIX has decided to save me money.  NPR reports:

Netflix is removing its cheapest ad-free plan for subscribers in the U.S. and France.

The change was announced Thursday as part of the streaming giant's second-quarter earnings report.

The basic plan was $11.99 per month, and had already been phased out for subscribers in Canada and the U.K. The company stopped allowing new sign-ups for the basic plan in July 2023, but existing subscribers were allowed to keep the plan until now.

Basic plan subscribers can switch to the ad-free Standard plan, which is $15.49 per month, or downgrade to the ad-supported plan that is $6.99 per month, which was launched in November 2022. There is also a premium plan for $22.99 per month.

I'm not paying $15.49 for NETFLIX.  I'll drop down to the $6.99 plan.

But not now.  The $11.99 plan is being discontinued.  It's not discontinued yet.  When it is, I'll flip to the $6.99 plan.  I was planning to do it right now but saw that I wasn't being forced to switch yet.

Going out with C.I.'s "
