Movies. I watched "Raising Cain" this week. Brian DePalma is one of the top American directors of all time in my opinion. He has style, he has this strong visual sense and even a bad BDP is better than a great Ron Howard film (or what passes for great when it comes to Ron Howard films).
John Lithgow stars in "Raising Cain." His father did experiments on him when he was a child and he has multiple personalities.
And that's why the movie wasn't a great one. I can almost take one John Lithgow, almost.
Steven Bauer was in the film and I forgot how good of an actor he was. (See "Scarface" and "Traffic" for two examples.)
Lolita Davidovich played the main character, Jenny, Cain's wife. She wasn't that good. She wasn't bad. But she wasn't that good. And from some angles she was gorgeous, but from she was scary (and she wasn't supposed to be scary).
When you don't really care for either of the two lead actors and the movie still hooks you, that's a sign of a real director.
Going out with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
