This was a hit film and yet I did not know that -- one report after another called it a flop but it's a comedy that made over $100 million at the box office. This movie was just hated by the critics.
It stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in the roles Walter Mathau and Ingrid Bergman played in "Cactus Flower."
The film differs from "Cactus Flower" only in that we don't really care about the Goldie character. Goldie Hawn was amazing as Toni (and won an Academy Award for her performance). But in the remake, the character really is a plot device and little else.
Nicole Kidman is in the film and her character doesn't appear in "Cactus Flower." She's Jennifer Aniston's college rival. And she's very funny. You wish she had even more time in the movie.
Adam Sandler regains his likeability with this film. And Jennifer Aniston adds class to it as well as humor.
I love "Cactus Flower" and was really afraid that I wouldn't like this. I was wrong.
Going out with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" (The Common Ills):
