Update II: Big Media “fact checkers” deride “the apology tour” label because they say Obama never used the word “apology”. We remind them Neville Chamberlain never called his policy “appeasement” but that is what it was and the consequence was a World at war.
Here is the best exchange of the debate when Romney calls out Obama:
“I think they looked and thought, well, that’s an unusual honor to receive from the president of the United States,” Romney said. “And then the president began what I’ve called an apology tour of going to nations in the Middle East and criticizing America. I think they looked at that and saw weakness.” [snip]
“Mr. President, the reason I call it an apology tour is because you went to the Middle East and you flew to Egypt and to Saudi Arabia and to Turkey and Iraq,” he said. “And by the way, you skipped Israel, our closest friend in the region, but you went to the other nations. And, by the way, they noticed that you skipped Israel. And then in those nations and on Arabic TV you said that America had been dismissive and derisive. You said that on occasion America had dictated to other nations.”
This was the least watched debate, by the way.
Because it was so boring?
I think more likely because people were pissed off by Candy Crowley's stunt last week. If the ratings showed people tuning out as it progressed, that would to to boredom. But what's happened is a lot less people bothered to tune in this time.
And I think that's a reflection of the public disgust with Candy Crowley who interrupted a spirited exchange to 'correct' Mitt Romney when he was correct.
I don't think Crowley will ever be invited back to debate again. I also think that CNN will drop her shortly.
This is not a Republican-Democrat split. It has to do with being appalled by a journalist who refused to stay out of it and didn't even know enough to know she was wrong. Or didn't care that she was wrong, just wanted to throw the debate.
So I think the low ratings were a reaction to her performance last week.
In other news, David Wilkerson (MarketWatch) reports:
Netflix Inc. lowered its forecast for streaming subscribers on Tuesday, but CEO Reed Hastings said increased competition from Amazon.com was not the main culprit.
Instead, Hastings admitted on a conference call late Tuesday that “we’re guilty of making a bad forecast,” in reference to its former prediction of adding 7 million streaming subscribers this year. Netflix NFLX +0.50% lowered that target on Tuesday in its third-quarter earnings report — sending its shares into a tailspin in after-hours trades.
“Roughly, I think we’re feeling our way along as the streaming market grows, and we mispredicted,” he said. “I would call it a more of a forecasting error than anything else.”
Does that surprise you?
Me neither. When they tried to do away with their DVD service, they spat on their customers and made clear they weren't a cool company.
Streaming is a joke.
They don't have many classic films and they have even less new films.
More and more people talk about switching to Hulu Plus or Amazon Prime. I understand that because I'm ready to switch myself.
Now Netflix killed itself with its greed and stupidity. The next story is just stupidity and shame. CBS and AP report, "State police say a 20-year woman suffering from extensive burns apparently made up a story about being set on fire by three men wearing white hoodies who wrote the initials KKK and a racial slur on her car. Instead, authorities said Tuesday she burned herself and then fabricated the story about being attacked." She should be ashamed of herself. Crap like that makes it so much harder for real racism to get called out. That woman lied and now she's disgraced us all. I'm embarrassed for her.
Going out with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
