Not because women were the leads. I like super heroines. Possibly because it was on the WB (now the CW) which had lost whatever cool it had by then and was ridiculed as a teeny pop network.
Absolutely because of Batgirl.
Barbara Gordon is Oracle in this. She is shot by Joker and becomes Oracle.
They should have publicized that and I would have considered watching.
The comics had another detail. Joker rapes Batgirl.
That was so offensive. And they should have made it clear in advertising because if I'd known the show dropped the rape, I would have watched it sooner.
I think Oracle is a solid hero and am not bothered that she's challenged or disabled. But I did not forgive them for the graphic rape -- and the cheap thrills of it -- because Batgirl and Barbara Gordon deserved better. When Batman or Superman gets raped, then we can talk about what a 'wonderful storyline' it is.
So the show.
I see why it got the axe.
Not one of the three leads should have been cast.
The woman playing Barbara Gordon isn't Barbara Gordon-ish.
The woman playing Huntress thinks jutting out her chin and strutting with an attitude makes you an actress.
The one playing Dina (Black Canary) was probably stuck playing it that way due to the scripts but she was way too wide-eyed.
Suh-layn-uh. That's how Catwoman's name is pronounced. Earth 1 Batman and Catwoman had a daughter: The Huntress. Helena. So that should be Huh-layn-uh.
Instead it's Hell-uh-nuh.
That's so damn pretentious.
The whole thing was ridiculous.
Did they do anything right? Lori Loughlin was on one episode as Black Canary (Dina's mother). She did a great job. Shemar Moore did a great job in every episode as a detective.
I thought it was ridiculous that Huntress was a bartender. Not because there's anything wrong with bartending (though the idiot behind this show also turned the Bionic Woman into a bartender) but because, as Huntress, she wears no mask. So why does she have a job in the public eye? Isn't she going to be recognized at some point?
There were also not enough action scenes and the Batgirl action (flashbacks) was stupid. She can walk over to Sheba and confront her but instead throws her own back on a car hood and (awkwardly) gets up from the hood to begin 'fighting.'
It wasn't fighting. Huntress at least fought. Batgirl was doing can-can kicks and similar nonsense.
Why "Birds of Prey"? I really wanted to give it a try and I am thinking about getting out of Netflix so I'm trying to get the DVDs of whatever I wanted to see but hadn't.
Going out with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
