I’m willing to let Jon Huntsman, President Obama’s former ambassador to China and a Republican presidential candidate, have a guest op-ed of sorts concerning the president’s speech tonight on Afghanistan, where he’s likely to withdraw a paltry 5,000 troops, 5,000 more by the end of the year and up to 20,000 more by the fall of 2012. Calling Obama “a little slow and a little cautious,” Huntsman said:
"I think that we can probably be more aggressive. We've been at this for nine years and fifty days. We put Karzai in power, we've had democratic elections.... We've routed the Taliban, we've dismantled Al Qaeda. What we need now is a healthy dose of nation-building here at home.… When you look at one out of every six Defense Department dollars going in support of what we're doing in Afghanistan, I think over the next year, I think there is room to draw down more.”
I considered the speech to be a grave insult to the American people, Afghans and Iraqis. I felt his lies were transparent and his sop offered was the bare minimum he thought he had to do in order to get re-elected. He made it 10,000 at the end of the year. And that's disgusting.
He's worse than Bush. And he lies better than Bush. They're both War Hawks.
And what about that s**t on when all troops would be out? Did you catch that?
2014. Not only is that unacceptable -- that will be 13 years -- but it's 2 years after he's either re-elected or out of office. And we have no check either way. If he's re-elected, 2014, he changes his mind (like he has on Iraq) and what do we threaten? We're not going to vote for you!
He can't be elected to a third term.
He loses the presidency in the 2012 election? His 2014 promise is meaningless.
Now of the two options, I firmly support Barack being out in 2014.
But his words, his promises are b.s. So is he.
I hope we have some people worth voting for next year. And I hope Barack gets voted out.
