Movie night last night to the extreme. Caught up on a lot of new films. In "Bad Teacher," Betty praised the Cameron Diaz comedy and so I knew it had to go on my watch list right away.
This really is hilarious and you need to get the unrated version because that's even better than the R rated version and it includes deleted scenes as well (on the disc).
I like Cameron Diaz so when Betty raved over the film, I knew I was going to like it. I got it at Target for $19.99 but almost downloaded it instead -- at Amazon it's $12.99 to puchase ($3.99 to rent) as a download.
This is a great movie. You will laugh and laugh. And everyone in it is great. Molly Shannon shows up for two or three scenes and she's great.
The best scene in the movie? I'd argue the dry hump just because it's so funny and reminded me of how Cameron Diaz really became a star with "There's Something About Mary." That was a brave and out there script and so is "Bad Teacher."
She's a woman who's glad to be getting out of teaching and marrying well. But her future mother-in-law puts an end to the marriage and Cameron's back at school and showing movies every day while she drinks in class and gets stoned in the parking lot.
It's a really funny film that has a bit of a turn around but not so much that you can't believe it. In other words, this isn't an after school special.
Jason Segel's really good in it too. I liked him in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" but, though he tried hard, he seemed wrong for the part "I Love You Man" (in fact, he was the weakest thing in the film to me). He does a strong performance here. I think it may be his best yet.
If you're thinking, "So what? She's a bad teacher and she doesn't want to teach." There's so much more going on in the film. She's looking to hook a rich guy, she's got a nemesis at work, she's got a roommate (Cal from "Modern Family") and she's running a blackmail scheme among other things.
It's really hilarious and will keep you both laughing and surprised up until the end. "Bad Teacher," great movie.
Going out with C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot:"
