Barack Obama is in charge of his campaign. Mitt Romney has been called a felon and murderer and there are mumbles about how the Obama campaign is somehow not playing “cricket”.
“The rules, ol’ boy, the rules. Shocking eh wot?” We can almost hear the Romney clan planning revenge on Barack Obama by inviting him to a formal dinner and making sure his finger bowl is only partially filled leaving him with slightly greasy fingers.” “That will show the blighter, eh Muffy?” “We’ll show this fellow how tough we play in Boston, on the Hill.” “Oh yes dear, he won’t know what to do what to do with his fingers. He’ll be forced to wipe them on the linen and expose himself to ridicule. Haw, Haw.” “Well played.”
Romney SuperPacs were tough on Newt and Republicans in the primaries. It’s taken being called a felon, a murderer and now implications that he is not just a plain ol’ racist, like Bill Clinton, but more akin to a slave owner for Mitt Romney to get a clue. Romney rips Obama over Biden’s “chains” remark: These smears are disgracing the office of the presidency
“Mitt Romney used a tough new campaign speech to personally blast the Obama campaign on Tuesday, saying comments earlier in the day from Vice President Biden are “what an angry and desperate Presidency looks like.”Romney’s words are a bit stronger but still insufficient. An ad with a big buy as we suggested above is needed. The attacks must be personal and directed right at the perceived Obama strength of “likeability”. Mitt Romney is on a mud field facing the guns by getting into a detail battle on Medicare because Barack Obama had a strategy based on MediScare ready to unleash on whomever won the Republican primary.
“Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago,” Romney said while campaigning in Ohio…
“His campaign and his surrogates have made wild and reckless accusations that disgrace the office of the Presidency. Another outrageous charge came a few hours ago in Virginia. And the White House sinks a little bit lower,” Romney said.
“This is an election in which we should be talking about the path ahead, but you don’t hear any answers coming from President Obama’s re-election campaign. That’s because he’s intellectually exhausted, out of ideas, and out of energy. And so his campaign has resorted to diversions and distractions, to demagoguing and defaming others. This is an old game in politics; what’s different this year is that the president is taking things to a new low.” [snip]
One: Like I said, he’s got to cut into O’s favorables. [snip]
Two: He’s trying to inoculate himself from even nastier — and more damaging — attacks down the line. Remember, according to Major Garrett, Obama’s Super PAC has all sorts of sludge in the pipeline waiting to flow.“
I think he knows what he's doing. CBS News tonight -- video and text -- reported on the nasty campaigns noting:
Many commentators speculated this week that once Mitt Romney put Paul Ryan on the ticket, it meant the campaign would be about two competing visions for the country -- a campaign about substance.
So much for that. Just days later, the campaign is already turning into one of the nastiest and most personal in modern times -- one side accusing the other of coming "unhinged," the other invoking charges of anger and hate.
Gov. Romney unleashed one of his harshest critiques of the president to date in Ohio Tuesday night -- and it was intensely personal. He criticized the president for, as he put it "pandering" to some Americans and demonizing others.
"So Mr. President," Romney said at the rally, "take your campaign of division and anger and hate, back to Chicago let us get about rebuilding and reuniting America."
That was Nancy Cordes' story, by the way.
And I think he wants to destroy the false image Barack has of being so nice and so inspirational.
He's not, you know. He's a backbiting little shrew.
And tonight viewers saw a little of it.
And that was Romney's point.
I don't know why Hillary is 44 is still so bummed. Seems to me Romney's doing what he needs to be doing right now.
If I'm wrong, that's on me.
But I think this really is about establishing that Barack's not so nice and harming his likable scores.
